In FUE treatment, hair thickening products, special shampoos and hairpieces are made use of to combat balding. “They can be easily found in hair transplant clinics or high-end salons. Leading surgeons from various Hair Transplant Institute, recommend these products as they have been specially designed to give an illusion of hair thickness and making the scalp less visible. Whenever applied, the tiny fibres and pigmented material stick to the scalp and hair strands”. As they can be washed out, they need to be reapplied for daily use. If you are thinking about getting a hair transplant with FUT or FUE, then here are a few things that you should know.

What is FUE?

FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. The surgery for follicular extraction is minimally invasive and less traumatic for the scalp than the previously available FUT options. In FUE, long pieces of the scalp are not used to create the grafts. Instead, small individual punch extractions containing hair follicles are removed one by one. These follicles are harvested from either the back or sides of the head, which has dense growth. Each follicle includes around 1 to 5 strands of hair on average and is strategically placed into shallow slits.

Steps to follow when healing:

If you are self-conscious and want to hide the scalp during the healing process, then you could consider taking a couple of weeks off from work or work from home. Most people who have undergone treatment get back to their daily routine within 3 to 5 days. You could also choose to wear a soft hat to hide and protect the delicate healing grafts.

Cutting your hair short before the treatment is highly recommended as it reduces the contrast between the treated and untreated areas. When your new hair grows in, they’ll blend in perfectly with short hair. It is crucial that you follow all the instructions to the T and take extra precautions within the first few weeks.

How fast is the recovery?

Just like every surgery, there are a few restrictions which are placed on your activity and scalp contact, while the healing process is on. The healing process is usually rapid and involves minimal risks. Regular washing of hair should be avoided for 7 to 10 days. In the meanwhile, rinse the scalp carefully with clean water. Do not scrub, rub or shampoo during this period.

Use of styling products and topical fibres is restricted. As the small incisions start to close they become prone to infection and irritation. Use only clean water on it or the medications that have been advised by your surgeon. These incisions usually close very fast, within a few days. Small scabs are formed which would slough off within a week. In your follow up appointments, your surgeon will analyze your scalp and see whether it has healed and if you can resume styling and applying hair products.
